Family & Friends Adventure: e-Bike Odyssey from Mooloolaba to Mt Coolum with @ecoTekkSC
Making a multi-day e-Bike hire from ecoTekk Sunshine Coast gave us the option to plan a day ride for the family from our accommodation at Mooloolaba to Mt Coolum on the Sunshine Coast. The family-oriented crew from ecoTekkSC had all the needs of our family covered, from 20” e-Bikes configured for our 9 and 11-year-olds to one suitable for our teenager who would soon be going uni. This set us up for a picturesque cycle safari that showcased the best of the region’s natural beauty, with loads of fun for the kids. The journey we made on the e-bikes was a memorable, fun and eco-friendly way to explore the coast between Mooloolaba and Coolum.
Starting in Mooloolaba, the ride took us along the coast, passing by the famous Mooloolaba Beach, its Loo With a View, and the Mooloolaba Esplanade. The esplanade offered a great place to stop and take in the views of the ocean, have a quick dip, and grab a nice breakfast at one of the many cafes and restaurants.
As we continued on our journey, the e-bikes made it easy to tackle the hill of Alexandra Headland, where we stopped at the top to visit the HMAS Brisbane Memorial Lookout for some history and insta-perfect photos east to Point Cartwright. This area is known for its long stretch of beach and its surf breaks. We made our way past the Surf Clubs of Alexandra Headland and Maroochy and into Cotton Tree Park. The kids wanted to play on the awesome swings, so we stopped and enjoyed coffee from The Boat Shed.
Heading off again we cycled along Duporth Avenue to Picnic Point and then along Bradman Avenue next to the river. The Coastal Pathway took us over the Maroochy River and, as we left the built-up area behind, we entered a more natural setting, with the road winding through Maroochy River Conservation Park and eucalyptus forests. The e-bikes made it easy to take in the sights and sounds of the regional ecosystems, with the electric assist allowing us to focus on the scenery rather than the effort of pedalling.
The tree tunnel along the foreshore at Marcoola was just amazing. When completing the bike safety induction, Stuart from ecoTekk Sunshine Coast said to watch out for the exit to the boardwalk view of Mount Coolum, and that it would be worth it to check it out. It certainly was a beautiful vista of the mountain and the coast.
As we approached Mt Coolum, the road turned inland towards Mount Coolum National Park. Even though we left the Coastal Pathway at Tanah St West (there were traffic lights with a pedestrian crossing that helped us negotiate the David Low Way), the path was still excellent to the car park at the bottom of the mountain. The e-bikes’ electric assist made it easy for everyone to tackle the 26km ride up, leaving us fresh for our climb to the summit of Mt Coolum. The top of this volcanic dome gave us panoramic views of the surrounding area, including the ocean, the hinterland, and the Glass House Mountains. Stunning! As we made our way back to Mooloolaba via the delightful tree tunnel, we took a short detour up the boardwalk and into Breezeway St. We stopped for a break and some yummy lunch at Curlys on the Boardwalk. It’s a great little cafe with excellent service.
Because we had the e-bikes for three days we were able to take our time. We stopped for another swim and ice cream at Mudjimba, and to just relax on the beach. It was such an awesome day!
We thought the ride from Mooloolaba to Mt Coolum on the e-bikes was a fantastic way to explore the Sunshine Coast. The combination of the electric assist and the natural beauty of the area made for a truly enjoyable and memorable experience. The e-bikes were a great option and enabled us to cover more distance and tackle the hills and inclines without breaking a sweat.
Additionally, the e-bikes were an environmentally friendly option for transportation, providing a great way to reduce our carbon footprint while we enjoyed the outdoors. It was also an excellent choice for our range of ages and fitness levels. We wanted to enjoy the beauty of the area without the strenuous effort of traditional biking.
